Cells ಠಿ_ಠ Flashcards
What is a lysosomes function?
Lysosomes function as the digestive system of the cell and as the garbage collector
What is a Mitochondria function?
creating energy to drive cellular function and basically all of our biological processes.
What is a Golgi apparatus function?
helps process and package proteins and lipid molecules, especially proteins destined to be exported from the cell.
What is a endoplasmic reticulum function?
produce proteins for the rest of the cell to function. the Ribosomes make the proteins
What is a cell membrane function?
regulates the transport of materials entering and exiting the cell.
What is a Ribosomes function?
A ribosome is the cellular machinery responsible for making proteins.
What is a vacuole function?
stores water and hides waste products. It is bigger in plant cells because plants need to store more water
What is a Cell walls function?
provide structural strength and support, and also provide a semi-permeable surface for molecules to pass in and out of the cell. it is only found in plant cells
What is a chloroplast function?
produce energy through photosynthesis and oxygen-release processes, which sustain plant growth and crop yield
What is a Nucleus function?
contains the cell’s hereditary information and controls the cell’s growth and reproduction
What is a Nucleolus function?
produce and assemble the cell’s ribosomes
What is the difference between plant cells and animals cells?
A plant cell contains a large, singular vacuole that is used for storage and maintaining the shape of the cell. In contrast, animal cells have many, smaller vacuoles
summarize cell theory
The cell theory states that all biological organisms are composed of cells; cells are the unit of life and all life come from preexisting life.
Levels of organisation of an organism
cells, tissues, organs, organs systems, and organisms
what is a centrosomes function
organize the microtubules and provide a structure to the cell
