Cells Flashcards
Nucleus
“Control Center” Houses the cell’s DNA
Ribosome
Synthesize Proteins
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
Assembles Proteins and Lipids
Golgi Apparatus
Modifies, sorts, and packages proteins for transport in the cell.
Vaculoes
Store Materials
Lysosomes
Break down and recycle trash within the cell
Chloroplasts
Convert solar energy into chemical energy
Mitochondria
Converts chemical energy into usable food.
Cell Wall
(Plant Cells only) Shapes, supports, and protects the cell.
Cell Membrane
(Both Plant and Animal Cells) Regulates materials entering and leaving the cell. Acts like a gate.
Passive Transport
Happens on its own
Active Transport
Requires ATP or another form of energy to work
Diffusion
An example of passive Transport.
Facilitated Diffusion
Another example of passive transport. Proteins in the membrane of the cell help materials cross the membrane that otherwise would not be able to. Like a draw bridge.
Molecular Transport
Like a pump for materials. Active Transport.
