Cells Flashcards
What is movement?
A change in position or place.
What is respiration?
A chemical reaction that uses oxygen to release the energy in glucose.
What is sensitivity?
The ability to sense changes in the environment and respond to them.
What is reproduction?
Making more of the same organism.
What is excretion?
The removal of toxic and waste substances from an organism.
What is nutrition?
The process in which nutrients are taken into the body, broken down, and used for growth, repair and maintenance.
What is Biology?
Biology is the study of living things.
What is the difference between abiotic and biotic factors?
The non-living factors in an ecosystem are called abiotic factors. On the other hand the living factors in an ecosystem are called the biotic factors.
Give some examples of abiotic factors.
moisture, temperature, weather, altitude, amount of sunlight and pH of soil
Give examples of biotic factors.
predation (organism eating other organism), competition, parasitism and diseases
What are cells?
Cells are the basic building blocks of all living things.
Cells contain —————- which help them to carry out all of the MRS GREN processes.
Organelles.
Organisms with many cells are called ————— organisms.
multicellular
What is a nucleus?
The nucleus is the control centre of the cell that regulates the cells other processes. It contains the cell’s DNA.
Is the nucleus the brain of the cell? (yes/no)
No
