Cells Flashcards
What are cells ?
Cells are the smallest structural and functional unit of an organism.
What are Eukaryotic cells ?
Eukaryotic cells are complex and include all animal and plant cells.
What are prokaryotic cells?
Prokaryotic cells are smaller and simpler an example of this is bacteria
What’s the job of a nucleus in an animal cell ?
Nucleus
Contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell
What’s happens in the mitochondria in an animal cell ?
This is where most of the reactions take place
Respiration transfers energy that the cell needs to work
What is a cytoplasm in an animal cell ?
Gel - like substance where most of the chemical reactions happen it contains enzymes which controls these chemical reactions
What is the job of a cell membrane in an animal cell ?
Holds the cell together
Controls what’s going in and out
What’s the job of rbosomes in an animal cell ?
These are where proteins made in the cells
What happens on chloroplast in plant cells ?
This is where photosynthesis occurs which makes food for the plant
Chloroplast also contains a green substance called chlorophyll
What is the job of a cell wall in plant cells ?
Rigid cell wall mad of cellulose
It supports the cell and strengthens it
What is permanent vacuole in plant cells?
Contains cell sap a weak solution of sugar and salts
