Cells Flashcards
Name one difference between a animal and a plant cell
What a plant cell contains and a animal doesnt:
- chloroplast
- cell wall
- vacoule
What are the two main types of cells?
Plant
Animal
Name the two types of cells excluding plant/animal
Bacteria cells
Specialised cells
What does the cytoplasm do in a cell?
It is where all chemical reactions take place
What does the ribosome in a cell do?
Where protein sysnsis takes place
What do the mitochondria do in a cell?
They help to produce energy needed for photosynthesis or just to aid the cell
What is the name of a bacteria cells tail?
The bacterial flagellum
What do bacteria cells do?
Bacteria cells help make up our immune system and protect us from disease or infection. However there are some types of bacteria that are harmful to our body.
What does the slime capsule do for a bacteria cell?
It protects the cell from environmental disasters and helps the cell defend.
What are the plasmids?
They are in the nucleus and they make up the DNA for each cell.
What does the haemoglobin do in a cell?
It’s binds the oxygen to a red blood cell and allows more oxygen to be transported at once
How is a nerve cell adapted to effectively do it’s job?
It has lost of dendrites allowing it to connect with lots of other cells. They also have alot of mitochondria as they are very active cells.Tbes nerve cells allownus to fell things by sending electricalc impulses around the body.
How is a muscle cell adapted to effectively do it’s job?
It’s has special proteins which can slide over each when the muscle contacts. These cells also have allot of mitochondria as they need to be constantly moving.
How is a sperm cell adapted to effectively do it’s job?
Sperm cells have a whiplash tail to aid them swim
