Cells Flashcards
Hydrocarbon that sticks out of cell membrane.
Glycolipids or glycoproteins,
4 levels of carbohydrates, monosaccharides, disaccharides..
Oligosaccharides 3-10 linked polysaccharides 10+ linked
Epilethial and connective tissue function and make up
Epi= stacked layers of cells, little matrix.
It protects cells, ie skin and intestine lining
Connective= sparce cells, lots of matrix. Supports and transports nutrients. Bones fats blood
Nervous = highly cellular of many types, conducting and supporting. Comms and coordination between body. Nerves, sensory organ and brain
Functions of hydrocarbons in cell.
Structure (cell walls) energy and recognition is stuff outside of cell.
What is RNA and DNA made from
Cytosine guanine adenine
Uracil(RNA) thymine(DNA)
Differences between DNA and RNA
DNA: double stranded, sugar is dexoyribose, stores hereditary info.
RNA: single stranded, ribose, various functions in gene expression, including carrying instructions from DNA to ribosomes.
Prokaryotes vs Eukaryotes
Prokaryotes are mostly uni cellular and have no organelles.
Thing that bacteria uses to attach to cells
Fimbriae
Used by bacteria to swim
Flagella
Difference between gram negative and gram positive
Positive: THICC π©π©ππ¦ call wall, membrane.
Negative: membrane, thin cell wall, membrane
Nigga whatβs prokaryotic flagellum components
Long filament: twirly bit that spins and moves cell.
Hook: curved thing that connects filament to cell surface
Basal body: anchors flagellum to cell membrane, disc like structures called plates and rings
