Cells Flashcards
What is the cytoplasm?
Gel-like substance where most of the chemical reactions take place
What is the cell membrane?
Holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out
What is the Mitochondria?
Where most reactions for respiration take place
Where are the proteins made in a cell?
Ribosomes
What are three parts of a plant cell that an animal cell does not have?
Cell wall
Permanent vacuole
Chroroplasts
What is the function of the cell wall in a plant cell?
(Made of cellulose)
It supports the cell and strengthens it
What does a permanent vacuole contain?
Sap, a weak solution of sugar and salts
What are chloroplasts in a plant cell?
They are where photosynthesis occurs. They contain a green substance called chloroplasts
Name the parts of a yeast cell
Cell membrane
Cytoplasm
Cell wall
Nucleus
Name the parts of a bacteria cell, what does it not have?
No nucleus
Cytoplasm where the genetic material floats
Cell membrane
Cell wall
What is the function of the nucleus?
Contains genetic material that controls the activity of the cell
