Cells Flashcards
What is fertilisation?
The joining of a pollen grain nucleus with an egg nucleus from a different plant.
What is it called when pollen moves from the anther to the stigma?
Pollination
Some cells have _______ to do specific jobs.
Adapted
Particles of liquids and gases can move themselves without being shaken or stirred. What is this process?
Diffusion
Pollination can be performed by….
Birds
Insects
Wind
Amimals
Nerve cells are…
Very long

Name the features of an animal cell
Cell membrane

Cytoplasm
What does the cell membrane do?
It holds the cell together.
What does the nucleus do?
It is the control centre of the cell.
What does the cytoplasm do?
Jelly like substance where the activities of the cell take place.
What does the cell wall do?
It is a box with many large holes in it. It is very strong as it supports the cell. It also contains a substance called cellulose.
What does the vacuole do?
It is a storage space filled with a liquid called cell sap.
What do the chloroplasts do?
Green discs that allow the plant to feed using photosynthesis. They contain a chemical called chlorophyll.
What do ciliated epithelial cells do?
THEY ARE MY FAVOURITE CELL TYPE
What do nerve cells do?
They are very long because they carry messages around the body at speeds up to 300km/h.
What do muscle cells do?
They are able to change their length as an adaptation.
What do root hair calls do?
The root hair cell takes water out of the ground quickly. The root hair cell gives the water more surface area to get into the cell.
What do palisade cells do?
They are packed wi chloroplasts to take part in photosynthesis to help the plant make food.
