Q
Cell division and Pasteur’s experiments on spontaneous generation
A
As it has been stated in the cell theory cells come from pre-existing cells by division. This means that NOW, life comes only from life. There is NO spontaneous generation. This was proven by Pasteur’s experiments using the so-called swan- necked bottles.
He placed samples of broth into flasks with long necks, then he heated the necks to melt and bend into various shapes. Some broth flasks were boiled and some others remained unboiled. Fungi and other microorganisms appeared in the unboiled flasks but did not in the boiled ones. The bent necks of the flasks prevented air (and microorganisms) to enter the bottles.
