Cells Flashcards
What is a way to remember the 7 life processes
Mrs gren
What spells out Mrs gren
Movement, Reproduction, sensitivity, Growth, Excretion, Nutrition.
What is a nucleus
It is basically the control centre of a cell
What is a cell membrane
It is the barrier for the cell and it protects it
What is the cytoplasm
It holds the cell in place and protects it
What is the mitochondria
It produces the energy to power the cell
What are specialised cells
They are cells with a different structure to any other cell.
What does the plant cell have that the animal cell doesn’t
A cell wall, chloroplasts and a vacuole
What are ribosomes
It does protein synthesis
What is a vacuole
It stores water, waste products and other materials
What are chloroplasts
They do photosynthesis
What is a cellulose cell wall
It is a layer that gives protection and support.
What are unicellular organisms
They are only one cell that carries out all the functions needed by the organism
What are some examples of unicellular organisms
Amoeba, Bacteria, Euglena, Fungi
What is diffusion in cells
It is when substances go from a high concentration to a low concentration
What are the things you need to do to a set of instructions to make it better
Be REALLY clear, be detailed, say what equipment, don’t say ‘a bit’ ( be specific), how long, have the right measurements.
What is osmosis
The movement of water particles from a high concentration to a low concentration
Diluted solution = ________ _______ ______
High concentration of water and low concentration of sugar/glucose
Lowly diluted = __________
Low concentration of water and high concentration of sugar/glucose
Why does osmosis only involves water
Because the sucrose molecules are too big to fit through the selectively permeable membrane but the water can fit because it is small enough
What is the wall where the water molecules go though in osmosis called
Selectively permeable membrane
Why does there have to be a membrane for osmosis to take place
So that then there is a difference
