Cells Flashcards
What are two types of cells?
Animal and plant.
Do both have a nucleus?
Yes.
Name the organelles an animal cell has.
Cell surface membrane, nucleus, mitochondria, cytoplasm.
Do the plant cells have those as well?
Yes.
What additional do they have?
A permanent vacuole, cell wall, chloroplasts.
What are organelles?
Organelles are specialized subunits within cells that perform specific functions.
What function does the nucleus have?
Contains DNA.
What function do mitochondria have>
The main function of mitochondria is to generate energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP).
What function does cell surface membrane have?
Controls movement of substances in and out of the cell.
What function does the cytoplasm have?
Chemical reactions take place.
What function does the permanent vacuole have?
Stores cell sap.
What function do chloroplasts have?
Photosynthesis.
