Q

What is the function of the cytoplasm in an animal cell?

A

The cytoplasm holds all the other organelles in place as well as protecting them, with a gelatin-like consistancy.

Q

What is the function of the mitochondria in an animal cell?

A

The mitochondria is the power-house of the cell. They are membrane-bound organelles which generate chemical energy to power the functions of other organelles.

Q

What is the function of the smooth ER in a cell?

A

The ER’s are close to the nucleus, and make the synthesis for the lipids and protiens the cell needs.

Q

What is the function of the rough ER in a cell?

A

The rough ER is covered in ribosomes, and further works as the smooth ER holds lipids and protiens.

Q

What is the function of the golgi apparatus in an animal cell?

A

The golgi apparatus packages the lipids and protiens from the ER’s by attatching the chemical markers so when they are released, they will be able to be transported to the correct organelles.

Q

Why do plant cells have a cell wall and animal cells do not?

A

Animal cells are surrounded by the bone structure of the animal, and do not need the support. Plant cells need cell wall’s to act as a skeleten to maintain the form.

Q

What is the function of the cell membrane in a plant cell?

A

Q

What is the function of chloroplasts in a plant cell?

A

Contains chlorophyll, which capture light energy from the sun and convert water and carbon dioxide to produce glucose and oxygen into a form where the plant can utilise it and release what is uneeded.

17
Q

What is the function of a vacuole in a plant cell?

A

In a plant cell, the vacuole can take up majority of the space, and is used to elp maintain water balance as well as filter out waste products.
