Cells Flashcards
What are all the organelles of an animal cell?
Cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondria, vacuole, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, rough endoplasmic reticulum, golgi body, ribosomes, lysosomes.
What is the function of a cell membrane in an animal cell?
The cell membrane regulates what enters and exits the cell.
What is the function of the nucleus in a cell?
To hold all the DNA and to work as a control centre for the other organelles in the cell.
What is the function of the cytoplasm in an animal cell?
The cytoplasm holds all the other organelles in place as well as protecting them, with a gelatin-like consistancy.
What is the function of the mitochondria in an animal cell?
The mitochondria is the power-house of the cell. They are membrane-bound organelles which generate chemical energy to power the functions of other organelles.
What is the function of a vacuole in an animal cell?
Holds and gets rid of waste products from within the cell.
What is the function of the smooth ER in a cell?
The ER’s are close to the nucleus, and make the synthesis for the lipids and protiens the cell needs.
What is the function of the rough ER in a cell?
The rough ER is covered in ribosomes, and further works as the smooth ER holds lipids and protiens.
What is the function of the golgi apparatus in an animal cell?
The golgi apparatus packages the lipids and protiens from the ER’s by attatching the chemical markers so when they are released, they will be able to be transported to the correct organelles.
What is the function of ribosomes in an animal cell?
Ribosomes create protiens.
What is the function of lysosomes in an animal cell?
Are the digestive system of the cell.
What are all the organelles of a plant cell?
Cell wall, cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm, chloroplast, mitochondria, vacuole, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, roungh endoplasmic reticulum, golgi body, ribosomes.
What is the function of the cell wall in a plant cell?
A wall that provides support and strength to the cell.
Why do plant cells have a cell wall and animal cells do not?
Animal cells are surrounded by the bone structure of the animal, and do not need the support. Plant cells need cell wall’s to act as a skeleten to maintain the form.
What is the function of the cell membrane in a plant cell?
The cell membrane in a plant cell acts the same as in an animal cell, but also seperates the cytoplasm from the cell wall.
