Cells Flashcards
1
Q
what are the differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
A
- eukaryotic cells are multi cellular, prokaryotic cells are made up of only one type
- eukaryotic cells have their DNA enclosed in a nucleus, prokaryotic cells have their DNA in the cytoplasm
- prokaryotic cells are much smaller
2
Q
what subcellular structures do both plant and animal cells have
A
- nucleus
- mitochondria
- cell membrane
- ribosomes
- cytoplasm
3
Q
what subcellular structures do only plant cells have
A
- chloroplast: contains chlorophyll which absorbs light for photosynthesis
- vacuole: contains cell sap
-cell wall: supports and strengthens cell
4
Q
nucleus
A
contains genetic material
5
Q
cytoplasm
A
where chemical reaction takes place
6
Q
cell membrane
A
controls what goes in and out of the cell
7
Q
mitochondria
A
where reaction for aerobic respiration takes place, releases energy needed for the cells
8
Q
ribosomes
A
where proteins are made
