cells Flashcards
what are the three parts of the cell theory?
- all living things are made up of cells.
- cells are the simplest units of living things.
- all cells come from existing cells through cell division.
What are prokaryotic cells?
bacteria that is missing a nucleus and any membrane organelle.
what are eukaryotic cells?
every other living thing that has a nucleus and all organelles.
what does unicellular mean?
single celled
what does multicellular mean?
more than one cell
what is an organelle?
Part of a cell that has a specific function in the cell
what is the cell membrane?
a structure in the cell that surround the cytoplasm and regulates what comes in and out of the cell
what is the cell wall?
a rigid structure that surround the cell membrane in the cell that gives the cell its shape and structure.
what is the nucleus?
an organelle in a eukaryotic cell that holds DNA, it is a large dark circle in cell, and it is the boss of cell
what is the nucleolus?
found inside the nucleus. it is the dark part of nucleus and it makes ribosomes.
what is a nucleoid?
a region where DNA is found in prokaryotes
What is the mitochondria?
it is the powerhouse of the cell which creates energy for the cell.
what is ribosomes?
an organelle in which protein synthesizes. they are little dots in the cell.
what is the golgi apparatus?
an organelle in the cell that deals with bigger things coming in and out of the cell
what is a lysosome?
cell organelle that breaks down stuff the cell doesn’t need.
