Cells Flashcards
Nucleus
Site of DNA replication and transpiration
Nucleolus
small sphere in the nucleoplasm and the site of rRNA production
Nucleoplasm
granular, jelly like substance
RER
rough endoplasmic reticulum, used in protein synthesis
SER
smooth endoplasmic reticulum, used in protein synthesis and stores lipids and carbohydrates
Golgi apparatus
flattened sac of membranes, proteins are sorted to be transported to final destinations
Golgi vesicles
produced by Golgi apparatus, stores lipids and proteins made by GA
Lysosomes
contain hydrolytic enzymes that break down waste materials
Mitochondria
site of aerobic respiration, surrounded by a double membrane
Ribomes
site where proteins are made, floats in the cytoplasm
Vacuole (plant)
make cells turgid and provides support, temporarily stores sugars and amino acids
Chloroplast
site of photosynthesis
Cell wall
provides structural strength to the cell
Plasma membrane
regulates movements of substances in and out of the cell, has receptor sensors which allow it to respond to chemicals like hormones
