Cells Flashcards
What are the similarities between plant and animal cells
Nucleus
Cytoplasm
Mitochondria
Ribosomes
Cell membrane
What organelles are only in plant cells
Vacuole
Cell wall
Chloroplasts
What are eukaryotic cells
DNA in the nucleus
What are prokaryotic cells
DNA not in nucleus e.g bacteria
What is mitosis
Cells dividing- chromosomes copied, lined up along line pulled apart separated forming daughter cells
What is Meiosis
How gametes are made
How do you work out magnification

What is dna made up from
T+A, C+G,( bonus information every three bases code for amino acids— tells cells what order to synthesise proteins )
What is diffusion
When substances/ particles move from high concentration to low concentration down concentration gradient.
What is osmosis and what practical proves it
Water diffusion through semi-permeable membrane. To prove it cut same size cylinders of potato, weigh them , put in different concentrations of sucrose solution, leave, weigh them again , if heavier water absorbed as concentration of sugar in the potato was higher, if lighter vice versa, no change means that the concentration inside potato was same as outside
What is active transport
Energy used to move particles against concentration gradient e.g minerals into roots. Carrier proteins act as gates.
