Cells Flashcards
100 mastery
What is a cell?
All living things are made up of cells. Some livings things are made up of a single cell and others have lots of cells. People are made up of millions of cells. Cells are the building blocks of life. All cells carry out the seven characteristics of life. Cells are so tiny that we use microscopes to help us see them.
What is a plant cell?
- Has a cell wall
- Vacuole help with rigid structure
- Has a chloroplast
- Plant cell has a rigid firm shape
What is a animal cell?
- No cell wall
- No vacuole or very small one
- Does not have a chloroplast
- Animal cell has only one cell a cell membrane- can take up any shape
What is a nucleus?
the control center of the cell
What is a cell wall?
Gives protection and support
What is a cell membrane
controls what goes in and out of the cell
What is a vacuole?
A large space filled with watery liquid
What is cytoplasm?
A jelly-like substance where all activities of the cell take place
How our bodies are organized?
- Livings things are made up of different types of cells
- Cells are specialized to do certain jobs
- The shape of one cell and the parts inside it are especially suited for it to do it’s job
Tissues
Cells that do the same job and look alike are called tissues
Organs
- Different tissues work together to make an organ
- An organ has a special job to do
- The heart is a example of an organ
- The heart pumps blood throughout the body( the heart os made up of muscle, nerve and blood tissues)
Systems
- Organs work together to carry out a job that a single organ can’t do
- When organ work together to do a job, they form a system
- Different systems make up the living organism
- There are 9 system in the body
Skeleton, muscular, gland, nervous, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, excretory and reproduction systems
