Cells Flashcards
What is everything made up of?
Cells
Cells are either….
Prokaryotic or Eukaryotic
Eukaryotic Cells…
Are complex and include all animal and plant cells
Prokaryotic cells….
Are simple and smaller, e.g bacteria
Eukaryotes are…
organisms that are made up of eukaryotic cells
A Prokaryote is
a prokaryotic cell (it’s a single-celled) organism
What are the different parts of a cell called?
Subcellular structures
What are the subcellular structures in an animal cell?
Nucleus
Mitochondria
Cytoplasm
Cell membrane
Ribosomes
What is the function of the nucleus?
Contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell
What is the function of the Cytoplasm?
Gel-like substance where most of the the chemical reactions happen.
Contains enzymes that control these chemical reactions
What is the function of cell membrane?
holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out
What is the function of ribosomes?
these are where proteins are made in the cell
What are the added subcellular structures in plant cells?
Cell wall
Chloroplasts
Permanent Vacuole
What is the function of a cell wall?
Made of cellulose
It supports the cell and strengthens
What is the function of chloroplasts?
These are where photosynthesis occurs, which makes food for the plants
