Cells Flashcards
What does the mitochondria do?
Releases energy in a reaction caleed aerobic respiration
What does the cell surface membrane do?
It separates the cells from eachother, controls which substances are let in and out and keeps the cell together.
What does the cytoplasm do?
It is a jelly like substance. The chemical reactions happen inside of it. Eg. Respiration from the mitochondria.
What does the nucleus do?
Contains DNA which are coiled up as chromosomes. The nucleus also controls what the cell does.
What do Ribosomes do?
Ribosomes make protein and are found in the cytoplasm
What does the cell wall do?
It supports the cell. In plant cells it is made of cellulose
What do chloroplasts do?
Chloroplasts contain green chlorophyll. Chlorophyll absorbs light energy from the sun and photosynthesis happens
What does vacuole do?
It stores cell sap. When the vacuole is full up of water it keeps the cell firm and rigid
What is the difference between an animal cell and a plant cell?
Animal cells only have a cell membrane whereas plant cells have a membrane as well as a wall.
Why do red blood cells have a large surface area?
It lets them store more oxygen
What is the total magnification?
Eyepiece magnification X objective lens magnification
What is an Independant Variable?
The thing that it is being changed to alter results.
What is the dependant variable?
The variable being measured.
What is diffusion?
Diffusion is the way how particles spread with other particles.
What are the properties of a solid?
Very close together and packed, shape and volume doesn’t change. Particles vibrate. Cannot be squashed and doesn’t flow.
