Cells Flashcards
Cell membrane-
phospholipid bilayer (hydrophilic heads/hydrophobic tails) includes protein, cholesterol, glycoproteins
Nuclear Membrane:
barrier, phospholipid bilayer, has nuclear pores that allow for the exchange of material with rest of cell.
contains protein, cholesterol, glycoproteins, glycolipids
Nucleolus
produces ribosomes that migrate through nuclear pores to the cytoplasm.
Chromatin
contain DNA and protein, condenses to form chromosomes when cell divides.
Inclusions
metabolic products stored in cytoplasm.
Ribosomes
made of protein/RNA, synthesize protein. Stored in the endoplasmic reticulum or free in the cytoplasm.
Rough ER
materials of cellular membrane form, proteins are assembled
Smooth ER
cholesterol synthesis/breakdown, fat metabolism, drug detox
Lysosomes
enzymes digest materials in cell
Peroxisomes
enzyme catalase that destroyed hydrogen peroxide
Vacuoles
lysosomes and peroxisomes
Golgi Apparatus
modifies/packages proteins, produces secretory vesicles, produces cell membrane components called vesicles, lysosomes
Mitochondria
ontains reactions where oxygen is broken down into ATP (cellular energy)
Centrioles
made of microtubules that direct info to mitotic spindle during cell division.
Cytoskeleton
network of protein structures, allows cells to move.
