Cells Flashcards
Name the levels of organisation.
Atom Molecules Cells Tissues Organs System
Name the 4 componants of a cell.
Cell membrane, cell wall, cytoplasm, nucleus.
Name the three organelles of a cell:
Mitocondrion, chloroplasts, vacule
What is the functuon of the cell membrane?
Holds cell together-gives it shape.
Selectively permable (comtrols what goes in and out)
What is the function of a cytoplasm?
Jellylike substance.
Holds all componants of the cell together.
Chemical reactions take place.
What is the function of the nucleus?
Controls vital systems within the cell.
Involved in cell division.
Contains chromosomes which are mafe up of DNA.
What is the function of Mitochondria?
Cellular respiration takes place.
How does the vacule appear in plant cells?
One large vacule.
How does the vacule appear in animal cells?
Small and numerous.
What is the function of the vacule?
Fills with water, dissilved sugars and salts.
Stores substances.
Keeps plant cell firm/turgent.
What is the function of the muscle cell?
Comtracts and relaxes causing movement.
What is the function of the sperm cell?
Delivers DNA to the ovum forming a zygote.
What is the function of the nerve cell?
Conducts electronic signals from the brain to the rest of the body and vice versa.
What is the function of red blood cells?
Transports oxygen around the body, and carbon dioxide to the lungs to exhale.
What is the function of epithelial cells?
They protect or cover something.
