Cells Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the structure and function of a nucleus
A
- The nucleus contains a nucleolus enclose in a nuclear envelope with nuclear pores .The nuclear envelope also contains chromatin
- The function of the nucleus is to control the cells activities .It contains the DNA instructions to make a protein .The pores allow substances to move between the nucleus and the cytoplasm .The nucleolus makes ribosomes
2
Q
What is the function of lysosomes ?
A
lysosomes contain digestive enzymes that’s are kept separate from the cytoplasm and is used to break down worn out complements in cells
3
Q
whats is the function of the SER?
A
to synthesise and process lipids
4
Q
what are :
- plasmids
- flagellum
- pili ?
A
Plasmids -small loops of DNA that aren’t part of the main DNA molecule
Flagellum -long hair like structure that rotates to make the prokaryotic cell move
Pili-pili helps prokaryotes stick together and can be used to transfer genetic material
