Cells Flashcards
What equipment do we use to look at a cell?
A light microscope…
What is a specialised cell?
A cell with some genes turned off permanently…
Nucleus…
Control what the cell does and contains genetic material
Cytoplasm…
A jelly substance which fills the cell and this is where reactions take place
Cell wall…
Made of a tough substance called cellulose and supports the cell
Cell membrane…
The outer layer of the cell which holds it all and controls what goes in and out
Chloroplasts…
Where photosynthesis take place and contains chlorophyll
Chlorophyll
Helps the plant absorb sunlight, which the plant uses to make sugars for energy
Vacuole…
Contains a liquid called cell sap and helps the cell firm
Mitochondria…
This is where energy is released by respiration
