Cells Flashcards
Give 2 difference in structure between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
Prokaryotic cells are smaller. Prokaryotic don’t have mitochondria but E do. Prokaryotic cells don’t have a true nucleus. Prokaryotic cells have circular DNA.
Formula for magnification
Image size divided by real size
How to convert micrometers,to millimeters
Divide by 1000
Why do we stain a sample on microscope slide?
To highlight objects within sample by adding colour to them
Name 4 specialised cells
Sperms, nerve cells, muscle cells, root hair cells, phloem and xylem cells
Plants transport food from leaves to growing parts of plants through phloem tubes. Give one fearure why cells make it specialised for function
They are joined end to end.
They are long.
They have few subcellular structures
How are root cells specialised for function
The cells have a hair like shape so have a large surface area to absorb water and minerals from soil.
How are sperms cells specialised
Long tail and streamlined head to help it swim. Lots of mitochondria for energy. Also enzyme in head to digest through egg membrane
What happens before mitosis!
The cell has to increase the amount of subcellular structures. It needs to duplicate its DNA.
During mitosis, a parent cell produces…
2 daughter cells which have identical DNA to parent cell.
