Cell Types Flashcards
Octopus cells
PVCN
Fire at onset only.
Receive AN input across range of frequencies.
Pyramidal cells
DCN
“Power”/”buildup”
Primary output of DCN connects excitatory and inhibitory neurons firing range
Spherical Bushy cells
AVCN
Receive input from 1-3 AN fibers
Primary-like.
Synapses are mainly excitatory and on the cell body
Globular Bushy cells
AVCN
Receive input from more than 1 AN fiber
Primary-like w/notch
T-multipolar (Stellate)
AVCN
Receives AN input from restricted freq range
Chopper- regular dip between spikes
Intracellular voltage response
INNER HAIR CELL
Type I afferent (myelinated) many fibers synapse on one hair cell. • pear shaped • 1 row • stereocilia are free • base in osseus spiral lamina • no active mechanism
OUTER HAIR CELL
Type II afferent (unmyelinated), one nerve fiber synapses on many hair cells.
Efferent – info from brain to help with tuning
• Columnar
• 3-4 rows
• stereocilia in tectorial membrane
• based in basilar membrane
• active mechanism
