cell transport lab Flashcards
Equation for determining the volume of water required to create a solution:
Percentage concentration= (Mass of solute/Mass of solution) x 100
Equation for determining the mass of glucose required to make a solution:
Mass of solute (grams)= Molarity (M) x Volume (L) x Molecular weight (g/mol)
Is the rate of diffusion higher in the warm water or the cold water? Why?
The rate of diffusion is higher in warm water because the higher temperature causes a higher kinetic energy. Molecules move faster and causes the solute molecules to spread out and diffuse more quickly.
Is the concentration of dye in the beaker greater at the beginning of the experiment (when you first added the drop) or the end of the experiment (after it has diffused)? Why?
The concentration of dye in the beaker is greater at the beginning of the experiment because when the drop is first added, the dye molecules are densely packed in a small region. In addition, the dye molecules begin to move and spread out over time due to the molecules moving from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration.
