Cell Transport Flashcards
Movement of molecules from areas of high to low concentration(passive)
Ex. Food coloring, perfume
Diffusion
Diffusion of water across a semi-permeable membrane
Ex. Water following salt
Osmosis
3 types of solutions
Hypertonic, isotonic, hypotonic
Solution has higher solute than cell(cell shrinks)
Hypertonic
Solution has equal solute than cell(cell stays same)
Isotonic
Lower solute than cell(cell swells)
Hypotonic
Diffusion occurring through transport proteins(passive transport)
Facilitated diffusion
Requires energy(ATP), molecules move low to high, requires transport protein
Active transport
Cell swallows substances too large to enter other ways
Endocytosis
2 types of endocytosis
Phagocytosis and pinocytosis
Large molecules taken in, amoebas eat this way
Phagocytosis
Small molecules taken in
Pinocytosis
Wastes and proteins sent to cell surface and released
Exocytosis
