Cell Theory/Terms LESSON 1 Flashcards
Cell Theory (3):
- All cells come from previous cells.
- A cell is the basic building block of life.
- All living organisms are made up of cells.
Diffusion:
Movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
Selective permeability:
Ability of the cell membrane to control what goes in and out of the cell.
Osmosis:
Diffusion of water
Passive vs. Active Transport:
Passive: Movement of substance across a cell membrane without using energy
Active: Movement of substance across a cell membrane using energy
Protein Synthesis vs. Cellular Respiration vs. Photosynthesis
Protein synthesis: The process of creating proteins.
Cellular respiration: Converting sugar into energy
Photosynthesis: How plants make their own food
Levels of biological organization:
Atom, molecule, organelle, cells, tissue, organ, organ system, and organism.
