Cell Structures Flashcards
Heterochromatin
Dense chromosome material- the gene activity is suppressed due to tight coiling
Euchromatin
Less condense chromosome material - only stains strongly in cell division. These chromosomes are transcribed
Zymogen Granules
Specialised storage organelles that allow sorting, packaging and regulation of digestive enzymes.
Pinocytic vesicle
Transports fluid into cell- small particles are transported from extra cellular fluid forming an infolding. Particles are suspended in pinocytic vesicles
Plasmalemma
Plasma membrane- usually when a cell wall is present
Glycoalyx
Carbohydrate rich coating covering the outside of ukaryotic and prokaryotic cells- can be used in cell recognition. In bacterial cells provides a protective layer
Intracisternal
Situated/administered by entering a cisterna
Cisternae
Flatten disk membrane of the Golgi body- each Golgi may have 3- 20 cisternae
Peroxisome
Found in cytoplasm contains catalase and some oxidises
Glycogen inclusions
Store of glycogen usually found in liver or muscle cells
