Cell structure and transport Flashcards
Osmosis
The movement of water from a high concentration to a low concentration
Diffusion
One of the processes that allows dissolved substances to pass through the cell membrane to get into or out of a cell
Active Transport
The movement of ions or molecules across a cell membrane in the direction opposite that of diffusion from an area of lower concentration to one of higher concentration.
Specialised Cells
Cells that are made to carry out a particular task or function. They are cells in multicellular organisms
What do plant cells have that animals cells do not?
Cell wall, Chloroplast and a Vacuole
Prokaryotic Cell
A unicellular organism that lacks a membrane-bound organelle
How do we calculate the length of the object in a microscope?
Length of object = length of magnified object ÷ magnification
How can we calculate the magnifaction
magnification = measured size ÷ actual size
