Q

what is prokaryotic?

A

Bacteria- primarily single-celled organisms. (relatively small cells, the lack internal membrane bound organelles, most have rigid cell wall to maintain shape)

Q

What is eukaryotic?

A

Animals, plants, fungi and protists (larger cells, contained specialized membrane-bound organelles including a central nucleus, membrane can be stabilized by cholesterol)

Q

what is a cell membrane?

A

a physical barrier that separates the cytoplasm from the external environment; also surrounds most organelles.

Q

phospholipids

A

the heads are hydrophilic and the tails are hydrophobic. All together the molecule makes up an amphipathic molecule.

17
Q

what are the 2 types of cell membranes associated with proteins?

A

Transmembrane (transport proteins) and peripheral (signaling proteins)

18
Q
A
18
Q

transmembrane

A

embedded proteins and hangs across the structure (glucose transporter)
