Cell structure Flashcards
Describe the organisation of the body
Systems (digestive)–> organs (liver, stomach etc) –> tissues (liver tissue/glandular) –> cells –> organelles
What can be found inside a cell?
nucleus, cytoplasm, cell wall, cell membrane, mitochondira, vacuole, ribosomes, chloroplasts
What does the nucleus do?
Contains dna and controls the cell
What does the cytoplasm do?
The site of chemical reactions e.g anaerobic respiration
What does the cell membrane do?
It is a semi-permeable membrane
What does the cell wall do?
It protects and keeps the shape of the cell
What do mitochondria do?
It is the site of aerobic respiration to produce ATP.
What do chloroplasts do?
The site of photosynthesis.
What do ribosomes do?
They are involved in protein production?
What does the vacuole do?
Starch storage
What are the similarities and differences in plant and animal cells?
Similarities: Both have a nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondiria, ribosomes.
Differences: plants have chloroplasts, cell wall and vacuole. Mostly plant cells are bigger.
