Cell Structure Flashcards
Functions of the nucleus
It contains genetic material which controls the activities of the cell
Functions of cytoplasm
Most chemical processes take place here, controlled by enzymes
Functions of Cell Membranes
Controls the movement of substances into and out of the cell
Functions of Cell Walls
Strengthens the cell
Functions of chloroplasts
Contain chlorophyll, which absorbs light energy for photosynthesis
Functions of Vacuoles
To maintain the proper pressure within the plant cells to provide structure and support
Difference between an animal and plant cell
Animal cells do not have a cell wall or chloroplasts but plant cells do. Animal cells are round and irregular in shape while plant cells have fixed, rectangular shapes.
