Cell structure Flashcards

1
Q

What are the structures in the chloroplast?

A
  • stroma = a fluid filled matrix which contains starch grains
  • chloroplast envelope = a double plasma membrane that is highly selective of what enters and leaves a cell
  • grana = stacks of up to 100 disc like structures called thylakoids which contain chlorophyll

Q

What are the adaptations of chloroplasts?

A
  • granal membranes have a large SA for the attachment of chlorophyll, electron carriers and enzymes
  • fluid that contains enzymes
  • contains DNA and ribosomes which manfacture proteins

Q

What is the function and structure of the RER?

A
  • has ribosomes on its surface
  • provides a large SA for the attachments of proteins
