Cell structure Flashcards
1
Q
What are the structures in the chloroplast?
A
- stroma = a fluid filled matrix which contains starch grains
- chloroplast envelope = a double plasma membrane that is highly selective of what enters and leaves a cell
- grana = stacks of up to 100 disc like structures called thylakoids which contain chlorophyll
2
Q
What is the function of the chloroplast?
A
- to carry out photosynthesis
3
Q
What are the adaptations of chloroplasts?
A
- granal membranes have a large SA for the attachment of chlorophyll, electron carriers and enzymes
- fluid that contains enzymes
- contains DNA and ribosomes which manfacture proteins
4
Q
What is the structure of the endoplamsic recticulum?
A
A network of flattened sacs and tubules
5
Q
What is the function and structure of the RER?
A
- has ribosomes on its surface
- provides a large SA for the attachments of proteins
- provides a pathway for the transport of materials( proteins) throughout a cell
