Cell structure Flashcards
what kind of cells are animal and plant cells
eukaryotic
what do animal cells contain
cell membrane, nucleus, mitochondria, ribosomes, cytoplasm
what do plant cells contain
cell membrane, nucleus, mitochondria, ribosomes, cytoplasm, cell wall, vacuole, chloroplasts
what characteristics do prokaryotic cells have
-single celled
-no nucleus, single loop of DNA
-small rings of DNA called plasmids
-smaller than eukaryotic
3 differences between light and electron microscopes
light:
-cheap
-low resolution
-low magnification
electron:
-expensive
-high resolution (can see sub-cellular structures, like ribosomes)
-high magnification
how do you calculate magnification
magnification=image size/actual size
what is the purpose of specialised cells
specialised cells differentiate, which allows them to form different types of cells, like RBC, muscle cells and root hair cells.
