Cell Structure Flashcards
Functions of a cell surface membrane
-Controls what enters or leaves the cell
What is the function of a nucleolus
- Helps to manufacture ribosomes using the information in ur own DNA
- Helps in protein synthesis
What are the functions of the nucleus
- It stores DNA ,RNA and ribosomes
- It controls the protein and enzyme synthesis
Functions of the nuclear envelope
-Separates the content inside the nucleus from the cellular cytoplasm
Functions of RER
To synthesize protein
NB: it’s found near to the nucleus
Functions of the SER
- To synthesize lipids (cholesterol)
- It makes reproductive hormones (oestrogen & testosterone)
NB: it’s found far away from the nucleus
Functions of the Gogli body
1) Golgi vesicles are used to make Lysosomes
2) Sugars are added to proteins to make Glycoproteins
3) Sugars are added to lipids to make Glycolipids
4) (In the gas exchange system ) Goblet cells release a substance called Mucin from the Golgi apparatus
5) During plant cell division, Golgi enzymes are involved in the synthesis of new cell walls.
Functions of mitochondria
1) To carry out aerobic respiration
2) Production of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate)
Functions of ribosomes
1) to convert genetic code into an amino acid sequence.
2) to build protein polymers from amino acid monomers.
Functions of Lysosomes
Engulfs & destroys unwanted cells by the process called hydrolysis
Functions of ;
1) Centrioles
2) Microtubules
