Cell specialisation in animals Flashcards
Function of sperm cell
Sperm cells are specialised to fertilise egg cells.
What’s the function of the Flagellum
The flagellum is used for the cell’s motion. This allows sperm cells to travel towards the egg cell.
Adaptations of a Sperm cell
It has a long tail that whips from side to side to move the sperm. A middle section full of mitochondria to transfer the energy needed by the tail to move
An acrosome to store digestive enzymes to break down the outer layer of the egg and a Large nucleus to contain genetic information
What is the function of a muscle cell
to enable the body to move at to produce force and motion
Adaptations of muscle cells
Many mitochondria to transfer energy needed for chemical reactions special proteins that slide over each other and a store of glycogen That can be broken down and used in respiration
Function of a nerve cell
to transmit electrical impulses around the body
Adaptations of nerve cells
many dendrites an axon to carry impulses from one place to another synapses and many mitochondria
