Cell Reproduction Mitosis Flashcards

| Interphase

REPLICATE

The cell is very active in this phase. DNA replicates itself and protein is actively produced

| Prophase

STRETCH

The nucleolus and nucleus disappear. Chromosomes are now visible and spindle fibers stretch across the cell.

| Metaphase

LINE UP

Chromosomes line up along the center of the cell and attach to a spinal fiber.

| Anaphase

WORK TO THE SIDES. The spindle fibers go to work like a tugboat, pulling each pair of chromosomes toward opposite ends of the cell.

| Telophase

PINCHES.

The chromosomes appear at the poles and the spindle fibers begin to disappear. The cell pinches in toward the middle.

| Cytokinesis

TWO CELLS

A nucleus appears around each mass of chromosomes and the cell breaks apart, forming two identical cells. Each new cell is called a daughter cell and it has an exact copy of the chromosomes in the parent cell.

Mitosis
division of cell’s nucleus
DNA
deoxyribonucleic acid - genetic blueprint for a living organism DNA carries information for your height, eye color, etc.
