Cell Reproduction Flashcards
There are sex cells (sperm cell, egg cell)
4 unidentical daughter cells (diploid)
Meiosis
These are somatic cells
2 identical daughter cells (haploid)
Mitosis
- Inside the cell
- DNA coils til it becomes chromatin > chromatids> chromosome
- Thread-like structure that carries traits and characteristics (genetic information)
Chromosomes
Is a visual representation of an individual’s chromosomes arranged in a specific order, usually by size and shape.
Karyotype
- is the process of creating an individual’s chromosomes based on their size, banding patterns, and other characteristics.
- commonly used in genetics to analyze chromosomal structure
- identify abnormalities, diagnose genetic disorders
Karyotyping
*an organism that possesses both male and female reproductive organ
Hermaphrodite
*No. of chromosomes in human
No. of sperm cell and egg cell
46
23
*Single set of chromosomes (Gametes)
Haploid
*What is the 23rd chromosome?
Sex chromosome
*Two sets of chromosomes
Diploid
*The pair of chromosomes that you get from the sex cell
Homologous chromosome
*have excess chromosomes in their 21st chromosome
Trisomy 21
*abnormality in the DNA, can be inherited
Genetic defect
