Cell Physiology Flashcards
What is Human Physiology
the specific characteristics and mechanisms of the body that make it a living being
What does Extracellular Fluid have that Intracellular fluid doesn’t?
sodium
chloride
bicarbonate
ions
oxygen
glucose
fatty acids
amino acids
carbon dioxide
What does ICF have?
potassium
magnesium
phosphate ions
What is baroreceptor system?
located in the carotid arterie and arch of aorta it is stimulated by stretch of the arterial walls
sending nerve impulses to the medulla of the brain
inhibits the vasomotor center
What is the pathway of having high blood pressure
Baroreceptor system -> Medulla of the brain->Vasomotor center-> Sympathetic NS
to heart and blood vessels ->
diminished pumping activity by heart and dilation of peripheral blood vessels -> increased blood flow
What is Negative Feedback
When a factor is excessive/deficient a series of changes happen in order to bring it back to homeostasis
Whats an example of Negative feedback
Thermoregulation
What is a positive feedback loop
A “vicious cycle” that can lead to death in where there is attempt at correction
Whats an example of a positive feedback loop
blood loss
blood clotting
what is the nuclear membrane
separates nucleus and cytoplasm
What is cell membrane
separates cytoplasm from surrounding
fluids
What is protoplasm
different
substances that make up the cell
What makes up protoplasm
H2O- 70%-85%
Ions
Proteins- 10-20%
Lipids
Carbs
What Ions make up protoplasm
potassium, magnesium,
phosphate, sulfate, bicarbonate,
sodium choride, and calcium
What are structural proteins
form of long filaments and are microtubules that provide cytoskeletons
ex: fibrillar Proteins
