Cell Parts Flashcards
What are the 3 main components of Cell Theory?
- All living things are made up of Cells
- Living things require what cells require
- Cells are produced from Cells
What is the Function of the Nucleus?
Contains DNA for Cell to function
Also holds Nucleolus that produces ribosomes
What is the Cytoplasm?
A jelly like substance that holds together Organelles
What is the Endoplasmic Reticulum(ER)?
The ER is responsible for production and packaging of the cells Rough ER contain Ribosomes Smooth ER don’t
What is the Ribosome?
The Ribosome creates protein for the Cell usually found floating in cytoplasm or ER
What is the Golgi Apparatus?
The Golgi Apparatus helps package nutrients for the cell
What is the Vesicle/Vacuole?
The Vesicle/Vacuole helps store nutrients and other materials
Plant has single large Vesicle/Vacuole
What is the Mitochondria?
Nicknamed the Powerhouse of the Cell Produces ATP (energy) by converting sugars
What is the Lysosome?
Nicknamed the Suicide Sack
It consumes and recycles materials
What is Chloroplast?
Chloroplast is responsible for photosynthesis of the Plant Cell
What is the Cell Membrane
The protective barrier for the cell and allows for transport of needed and waste material made up of Phospholipids
Semi-Permeable
What is the Cell Wall?
The cell membrane is exclusive to Plant Cell acts as a protective barrier
What are the 2 sides of Phospholipid and what do they form?
Hydrophilic Heads- Water Loving
Hydrophobic Tails - Water Hating
Form Lipid Bilayer that keeps materials from diffusing with things they shouldn’t
What are the 2 main proteins for Diffusion?
Carrier - Changes shape
Channel- Helps facilitate in Facilitated Diffusion
