What is a tissue?
A group of similar cells that work together to carry out a particular function. Can include more than one type of cell.
What is an organ
A group of different tissues that work together to perform a certain function.
What is an organ system
A group of organs working together to perform a particular function.
What does the muscle, glandular and epithelial tissues do?
Muscular- to contract and move whatever it’s attached to
Glandular- makes and secretes chemicals like enzymes and hormones
Epithelial tissue- covers parts of the body eg. Inside the gut
Name three examples of tissues in the stomach and what their job is when in the stomach.
Muscular- moves stomach wall to churn up food
Glandular- makes digestive juices to digest food
Epithelial- covers up outside and inside of the stomach
What do glands do? Give two examples
Produces digestive juices
Pancreas and salivary glands
What does the stomach and small intestine do?
Digests food
What does the liver do?
Produces bile
What does small intestine do?
Absorbs solvable food molecules
What does the large intestine do?
Absorbs water from undirected food leaving poo
