cell organells Flashcards
unicellular
single-celled, less complex
multicellular
has many cells, more complex
This organelle is the “control center” of the cell. This is where the cell’s DNA is located.
nucleus
This is the liquid that all the organelles float around in.
cytoplasm
This surrounds the cell - everything that goes in and out of the cell must pass through it.
cell membrane
AKA the “powerhouse”. This is the organelle that provides energy for the cell. The food that you eat goes here.
mitochondrion/mitochondria
This organelle holds extra food and water. It acts like a warehouse or storage unit.
vacuole
Only plant cells have a wall. It provides extra structure/shape and support.
cell wall
Only plant cells have chloroplasts. They hold chlorophyll (green liquid that absorbs the sun’s energy) that helps the cell perform photosynthesis.
