Cell Organelles Flashcards
Animal cell organelle:
Cell membrane
Outer boundary of the cell that controls what enters and exits the cell
Animal cell organelle:
Cytoplasm
The jelly-like substance where all the organelles are suspended
Animal cell organelle:
Nucleus
Contains DNA and is the control center of the cell
Animal cell organelle:
Nuclear membrane
Surrounds the nucleus and controls what enters and exits the nucleus
Animal cell organelle:
Nucleolus
Produces ribosomes and is in the nucleus
Animal cell organelle:
Rough endoplasmic reticulum
Series of flattened membrane sacs where protein is made and transported to the Golgi body (has ribosomes)
Animal cell organelle:
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum
Series of flattened membrane sacs that produce lipids(fats) and break down toxins. They do NOT have ribosomes.
Animal cell organelle:
Ribosomes
Produces proteins
Animal cell organelle:
Golgi body
Packages materials from the ER and transports them to other organelles outside the cell
Animal cell organelle:
Mitochondria
Where cellular respiration takes place and energy or ATP(Adenosine Triphosphate) is made
Animal cell organelle:
Vacuole
Sac that stores things like water, salt, minerals, and proteins
Animal cell organelle:
Lysosomes
Contain digestive chemicals that break down dead organelles and waste inside the cell
What organelles do plant cells and animals cell both have?
Cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, nuclear membrane, nucleolus, rough and smooth endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, Golgi body, mitochondria, and vacuole
Plant cells:
Chloroplast
Contains chlorophyll and is the site of photosynthesis
Plant cells:
Cell wall
Rigid structure that supports the cell and gives it shape
