Cell Organelles Flashcards
Nucleus
– DNA or genetic material
-Chromatin string form of DNA
~nuclear envelope – a membrane with pores that surrounds the nucleus
~ A dense center in the nucleus where ribosomes are made
Mitochondria
Site of cellular respiration, where ATP is produced
Chloroplast
Found only in plants and plant like protists and cyanobacteria
*Site of photosynthesis
Endoplasmic reticulum (ER)
- Rough-
- Smooth-
– Highway of the cell
- Rough- contains ribosomes, lots of protein system
- Smooth – site of lipid breakdown
Golgi Bodies
Modify and package finished proteins
Vesicles/Vacuole
Delivery trucks
-proteins, anything in or out of the cell
Lysosome
Contains digestive enzymes to recycle sell waste.
Ribosome
!No Membrane! – Made of rRNA (ribosomal nucleic acid) –Site of protein synthesis ~transcription + translation – Free-floating on cytoplasm or on ER
Cytoskeleton
Microfilaments +Microtubules
*It’s going to anchor cellular organelles and maintain cell shape.
Cell Membrane
Plasma membrane
– Boundary for ALL cells to maintain homeostasis
