cell organelle functions Flashcards
Nucleus
controls cell activity. contains the genetic material of the cell.
Ribosome
produces proteins. they either free float within the cytoplasm or associated with the Er.
Cytoplasm
gives the cell shape. site of many biochemical reactions.
Vacuole
used for storing a variety of compounds.
Nucleolus
produces ribosomal RNA.
Golgi body
modifies, sorts and packages proteins.
Endoplasmic reticulum
transports network within the cell. can be smooth or rough.
Mitochondria
site of cellular respiration
Plasma membrane
controls the entry and exit of materials into and out of the cell.
Lysosome
contains digestive enzymes. to digest old cell organelles.
Vesicle
enclosed space involved in transport, secretion and excretion of materials.
Cell wall
layer on the outside of the cell. provides support for the cell.
Large central vacuole
serves a variety of secretory and excretory and storages functions.
Chloroplast
absorbs light energy to create glucose via photosynthesis.
Starch granule
carbohydrate in the form of starch is stored inside plastids.
