Cell Oraganelles Flashcards
What is a Nucleus?
cell control centre that holds DNA
What is Mitochondria?
makes energy for the cell (power house of the cell)
What is a Ribosome?
is a small structure in cells that helps make proteins by reading instructions from a molecule called mRNA.
Endoplasmic Reticulum
is a cell structure that helps make and transport proteins.
Rough ER (Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum)
is part of the endoplasmic reticulum with ribosomes on its surface, helping make proteins.
Smooth ER (Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum)
is a type of endoplasmic reticulum without ribosomes, involved in making lipids and detoxifying substances.
Golgi Apparatus
Packs and sends out proteins
Lysosome
An organelle that contains enzymes to break down waste, damaged cells, and other materials.
Chloroplast
An organelle in plant cells that absorbs sunlight to make food through photosynthesis.
Cell Membrane
A protective layer around the cell that controls what enters and leaves.
Cell Wall
A rigid outer layer in plant cells that provides structure and support.
Vacuole
stores water and nutrients especially big in plant cells
Cytoplasm
The jelly-like substance inside the cell where organelles float and chemical reactions occur.
