Cell Membranes Flashcards
What is a micelle?
A single layer of phospholipids
What is a liposome?
A spherical phospholipid bilayer, with aqueous molecules inside.
What are integral proteins?
They are embedded in the membrane
What are peripheral proteins?
Proteins that only penetrate one layer of phospholipids
What is constitutive exocytosis?
Constant exocytosis
What is regulated exocytosis?
Exocytosis that is triggered by receptors
How do carrier proteins move molecules through the membrane?
They go through a conformational change, usually using ATP
What are symporter carrier proteins?
CPs that transport two things in the same direction at once
What are antiporter carrier proteins?
CPs that transport two things in opposite directions at once
What are MDRs (multi drug receptors)?
Proteins that pump drugs out of cells.
What do P Class AT proteins do?
Pump ions, they are carrier proteins that need to be phosphorylated
What are ABC transporters?
ATP-Binding Cassettes are active transport proteins.
Eukaryotes - export
Bacteria - export and import
