7
Q
Another name for cell membrane
A
Plasma membrane
8
Q
What are the factors that influence cell permeability
A
- Temperature
Higher temperature makes the membranes less stable and more fluid.
Lower temperature slow its function.
Excessive heat can lead to a complete loss of membrane structure.
Increased temperature prompts phospholipids to become more mobile due to heightened energy, thus enhancing membrane permeability. - Solute composition
Large molecules are unable to pass, some require protein channels
Smaller molecules diffuse through. - Cell hydration
Lower hydration levels diminish the membrane’s capacity to permit molecule passage, correlating with reduced permeability
