Cell membrane Flashcards
1
Q
cell membrane
A
(also known as plasma membrane) separates internal metabolic events from the external environment. This layer is semi-permeable – only small, uncharged, polar molecules can pass through (H20 and C02).
2
Q
channel proteins
A
provide passageways through the membrane for water-soluble substances.
3
Q
transport proteins
A
spend energy (ATP) to transfer materials across the membrane.
4
Q
Receptor proteins
A
initiate specific cell responses once hormones or other trigger molecules bind to them.
5
Q
electron transfer proteins
A
move electrons from one molecule to another.
